Deja vu

Everything started and stopped with you—

2000 miles can’t change a thing.

The past seemed so far away;

With every day of sun,

Every new experience,

I forgot one more piece of you.

And yet I can’t deny

That there’s a part of my heart,

Call it a chink or a chunk,

That will never grow back.

It came back again the other day,

Just a simple friendly gesture made

My breath hitch—

My heart stop—

My shoulders freeze.

But then I continued on.

Because here there are no fields;

Here there are no memories,

Just opportunities.

Here—

Here, I’m safe from you.

(But not safe from your ghost)

INFP who names inanimate objects, loves to laugh, and is a proud old soul. You can often find her planning out her next crazy project, hugging books, or telling stories about her day that *may* be a little exaggerated.
